The article has the details, but basically Cheney's office is accused of withholding documents from an oversight agency, then claiming that his office "does not consider itself to be part of the executive branch" and thus is exempt from the proposed oversight measures.

This wouldn't worry me so much except that the Attorney General is still Alberto Gonzalez, which makes any investigation into the V.P.'s office immediately tained, in my opinion. I really hope that it doesn't get ruled that the v.p.'s office isn't part of the executive branch.

It's historical lunacy, as well as against our Constitution, I believe, for the very good reason that the duties done by the vice president are related to the duties done by the president and others whose job it is to execute (not define) the laws. It's a massive loophole and conflict of interest to omit the V.P.'s office from oversight, but with Gonzalez in likely charge of prosecution, anything could happen. Keep your eyes on this one.

That is classic. Seeker, you're shaking my faith here, nothing you post is ever that classic! But that is indeed classic.

We really need to clarify that whole "separation of church and state" thing with more unequivocal language.
