Question-- I'm getting my laptop shortly and will be putting Ubuntu on it. My question is this:

How stable/usable/useful are the 64bit versions of Linux? They're still pretty useless in Windows and not worth the hassle-- is it the same for Linux?

We have several 64-bit machines here, and all of our machines have Linux, so that's not an issue. The normal problems apply, though.

Well, Linux is still more stable in the 64 bit versions than Winblows, but the thing is, are you used to Linux enough to use it at home? I love Linux, but I use Winblows xp on all my personal pcs cause I just can't do everything as easy on them as I could if they were all running Linux. Sorry to say...

Linux is a server system. Of course the 64-bit of Linux is stable. I would recommend good old Debian, but at least Ubuntu has apt-get, so it's all good.

When I get my laptop I'm going to dual-boot Ubuntu and Vista which will come on it.

Downloaded the 64bit version last night so I'll give it a try... now I gotta wait for the laptop.
