Possession date Feb 25.

Small 1.5 level (~800sqft). Large double lot (6300sqft?).

Figured I had to get in the market soon because housing prices are finally starting to catch up to the rest of the country here (Average house 2 or 3 years ago was about $90,000, now it's $210,000 with an expected 15% jump this spring. Remember, that's AVERAGE, not NICE).

Now my girlfriend an I just need to pick out carpet.... god I never thought I'd say that shit.

Anyway, just thought I'd provide an update.

Awesome, its great to be a home owner! Me, OTOH, am just about to sign a contract on the sale of mine. I'd love to buy again, but i'll probably rent for a year or two and re-evaluate things in my life.

Haha, congrats, dude!

Fea and I bought a house early last year. We've had similarly insane house price increases in Brisbane in the past few years; I'm glad we got in when we did. I'm just praying that we're not in a bubble that's about to burst, now!

I was worried about the bubble too, so I bought a house that if I lose money on it, it won't be a whole lot (no, I didn't buy a shithole, I just didn't buy at the upper limit of what I could afford).

Yeah, we did the same. We bought well within what we could afford. The brokers we spoke to told us we'd be able to borrow something approaching 500K, which is just madness — our repayments would have been over 90% of our combined wages. We ended up borrowing about 280K. At our current wages, interest rates could get up over 10% without killing us financially. When Fea stops working full-time is another matter, heh!

That's cool. Owning a house is fun and annoying at the same time, but at least you have something to invest in that is worth it instead of a car or something else that's guaranteed to depreciate. :)

Heh, yeah, dealing with the bullshit of stuff breaking is annoying, but at least you can replace whatever you want. I still have a few projects in the "95% complete" range (including this TV room) because I got lazy and just said the hell with it.

Got a loan 3 years ago, just as the interest rates were beginning to rise.
