Thinking of quitting my job...

So its no surprise I'm not happy at my job. I work in the newspaper industry as a webdesigner and shit has been going downhill the entire time I've been with the company. I recently realized I'm coming up on 2 years at my job in about a month or two. I've lost benefits, been forced to take furloughs, and had to do menial task for sales people including updating their fucking powerpoints.

So... I've got about 7 months of expenses in my bank account and no debt. I've contacted the old organization I was freelancing for before I landed my current job. They seem to still have plenty of jobs coming in.

I'm currently seeing my dentist and doctor and doing all those types of appointments in the assumption I quit or lose my job.

So... do I make my move?

At this point I'm so pissed off with my current job I wouldn't even give them the courtesy of a 2 week notice since they've fired so many with none at all.

I'd be hesitant to burn bridges. 2 years at a place makes a lot of resume real estate. Not only that if you put your place of employment on there that you used to freelance for and then went back and attempted to get another job, your resume would have a 2 year gap. That right there is a huge red flag sometimes to HR people. Just think, how would you explain that in an interview? Would you lie? Would you tell the truth but make an excuse as to why you left it off (this could potentially hurt you in the long run)? Would you tell the whole truth but then you would have to come up with another explanation as to why you left that job off your resume. They want to know where you've been and what you've been doing.

Continue to be cordial and if you are planning to leave, leave with notice. Yes you might be unhappy but you should still think of your time there as an investment in your career field more than a loss of benefits in a shitty position. Don't make this be the ugly pimple on your resume.

Holy shit! Yes, quit the company. Give the notice though. There's no poin working at a place that makes you miserable; especially if you have a positive amount in the bank and you could easily get another job.

I'd have to re-iterate what Seek / Barrett said-- quit if you want to and you're comfortable about being able to find new employment, but definitely give notice. Sure the bastards don't deserve it, but you spent what I'm assuming is a large portion of your current career there and you will want to be able to refer to it later. If you burn bridges in some respects you'll have to forget you ever worked there which will hurt you in the short run especially.

Make sure you're on real good terms with your boss so you can continue to use him as a reference, too.

I guess you're all right I should give them notice. Just so fed up with this bullshit...

I'm the only designer this month since our other guy is on leave since his wife had a baby. He has been out since June 1st and will be back June 30th....

So besides the other work I've inherited over time since they don't hire anyone I've got to do even more work....

This company is so ass backwards, no wonder the industry is on its way out
