One, I don't really understand why they are doing this. Google doesn't have any experience with fiber. I know they want to "learn", but it seems like diving into a whole other industry.

They say that they want to do a "open access network", but who is going to pay for the physical fiber and maintenance? Is it a shared lease with the other companies? Is that really open access?

And two, Google isn't a Canadian company, so no Canadian fiber. Don't like it? Change the law.

Still, it's an interesting idea and it would be fantastic if it worked out.

Yes, of course!!! Why the fuck didn't I think of that?! It's so fucking easy to simply walk into parliament, get the useless politicians to actually considering listening to me instead of kicking me out, actually get enough of them behind the bill to pass it, then get the senate, those guys who we don't even know who they are, to do the same, get the bill passed into law, then get it enforced all without the fat-cat communications companies appealing or slowing it down in any way.

Thanks so much, Sine! It's all clear to me now! Off I go!

Alright, maybe I was being mean, but it's a particularly dumb law, and I know you've been bitching about the ISPs around there for a while.

That's my point, that we Canadians don't stand up for anything. When our politicians fuck us in the ass we don't demand a reach-around like you guys do, we simply ask for more.

So we have dumb laws and an oversight agency that doesn't regulate and nothing we can do about it. If Google can somehow, someway break that, I'm all for it. I doubt it, but a man can dream....
