I see this pop up a lot whenever you're talking about a game, movie, book or whatever. I suppose the point is that since the author knows it all so any critique cannot possibly be right.

Now I am pretty sure nobody is God either, but that doesn't stop people from trying to figure out what God is planning. Otherwise there wouldn't be religion. And I'd say trying to figure out what God is thinking is considerably harder than trying to figure out fellow Homo Sapiens is thinking.

Why even have reviews if you're not supposed to question the creator of that work? Again people even question God. And when talking about any created work, usually the human creator is under considerable restriction since he generally has to deal with whatever rules he has created instead of just randomly changing stuff on the fly unless he wants to have no credibility. God doesn't have this problem and people still question His designs.

I realize this statement is usually a way of saying, "I don't have anything I can say so I'll appeal to the human creator as a God-like figure." Except people question the real God all the time too.

While we have probably had a ton of arguments here that are very similar, I think it is safe to say it is a young and ignorant view. Thus, making a terrible defense/debate reply. At this point, all you can do is roll your eyes and move on to a better discussion.

And really, if you think about it, an author/director/writer is only as good as how they portray their vision to their intended audience. If the target reviewers or viewers 'dont get it' then it doesnt matter how genius something might be. If a blockbuster movie turns out to be shit to most of America, its shit. If an indie film makes a great run in small venues it was probably successful.

I guess it comes down to the subjects intentions and whether the person making the comment is in that group. We can usually figure that out fairly quickly.

Well yeah the argument is common, but the random religious threads on here made me realize we question GOD all the time. Even religious people obviously believe they know His designs or whatever or we wouldn't have these debate. So while it's okay to question God, it's not okay to question another mortal. That's pretty ironic if you think about it.
