I am looking to copy do some of my own cutting on the starwars flicks, all of them. I have always felt that though they do have a lot of good stuff in them, there's also a lot of unessecary stuff that I don't like to watch and usually like to skip over. Is there a program that could make this whole process easier? One that would allow me to edit the video footage of the five movies to suit my own tastes?

Using Episode I as an example, one major portion I would cut out, or at least cut down, would be the pod racing scene, I would cut out a lot of the dialogue leading up to it, as well as all except maybe 5-10 seconds of the actual race.

Does anyone know anything about this stuff?

Well, this is what I've learned up to this point. You'll want to use a proggie to first rip the DVD. DVD Shrink can do this and you can decide what you want to keep (you can get rid of some "useless" stuff like commentaries and stuff). Rip it as an .avi. Then you'll need an editing proggie. A lot of people like Adobe Premiere, but it's a lot of hassle if you don't know how to use it. Lots of options, but a long time to master. You can just as easily use a TMPEG DVD Author and create your own DVD using the .avi file. While you're prepping the .avi file, you can actually edit the video. You basically set little chapter marks and it'll only prepare the DVD with those scenes (frames). So, you can just edit out what you want. It's not very powerful, but if all you're interested in is cutting out some scenes, that'll work. Then you just burn it right away.

You can get more info on the whole process at www.afterdawn.com. Another good site for how to use specific proggies to do specific things, go to www.videohelp.com, it's a pretty comprehensive site. Of course, you just use Torrentspy to get whatever proggie you need :-)
