...week 3 of owning my bike and it feels just like day 1, as far as exhilaration goes. Nothing beats the feeling of cruising down the road on top of one of these things, i feel as if i am an even better driver since i have to be so aware. Feeling the road, leaning into turns, revving for the chickies; it's all good stuff.
Learning was/is tough, i've never driven a 5 speed car before and so i had some problems with stalling my bike at first at lights and at any stop (a lot), but i think i've finally got the hang of it. I've learned you just cant be a pussy on the throttle and just have to slowly ease that clutch out to get a smooth roll going. Only a few times have i been at lights with some punk HS kid in his supped up civic next to me, luckily i've never stalled at those times and burned their asses a new one. Note to all of you, no matter what your car is an no matter how crappy the bike (and mine is a sport/touring) you will get burned at a light by a bike.
I highly reccomend owning one if you have cool friends who will teach you and not laugh at you as you learn. I got my bike cheap in the used market and it is by no means the best, but my friends have been real cool about it and i plan on learning on my Katana and possibly getting something else in a few years, but as on now i love my Kat and while she is not pure sport, she can haul ass and looks good to boot.
Just today, i pulled up to a light and an old guy on his hog pulled up next to me with nothing but a t-shirt and a skull cap (i had on my riding jacket and a full face guard helmet), he says to me "How can you feel the wind with all that crap on?" i thought about it and said, "I dont get bugs in my face!" Lol, good stuff, bikers are awesome people.
