November 11th 1918, 87 years since the armistice.

It's funny; the title of it. And we have forgotten the meaning of it. What a complete ton of bullshit this holiday is. We celebrate a day about honouring those who fought for freedom during the World Wars; and there are special deals at restaraunts and internet and phone companies all over the place.

The original deal for Remembrance Day was THAT WE REMEMBER NOT TO EVER LET THIS HAPPEN AGAIN. That meaning almost doesn't exist anymore.

Oh yeah, and you Americans, I know you celebrate something else. I forget the name of that day, but happy THAT day to you =)

I think most holidays are unfortunately sort of bullshit, or at least not properly celebrated.

Few people take the time to celebrate what the holiday's supposed to be about...and we get stuff like computer-animated versions of Washington and Lincoln telling us to buy some grotty used car on President's Day down here, which isn't how I'd choose to remember these great men.

I suppose you can't really legislate anything that says "you can't use Lincoln's face to sell a car", but it bugs me that these men who sacrificed good portions of their lives to fight for what they believed in have their images used to sell someone's mediocre product.

Anyway, this doesn't apply to Thanksgiving, Christmas, or Valentine's Day in America, though I'm not sure it I'd say it about any other holiday. Robin Williams has a skit about Easter that I think is somewhat appropriate - "How do you go from crucifixtion/resurrection to chocolate bunnies/colored eggs?"

And on the eighth day, the Lord invented capitalism, to put a dollar figure to nearly everything

The best way to forget something is to repeat it over and over and over again until you're completely bored with it.
