I'll admit that I knew this probably wasn't going to be anything special, and I'll admit that I only watched 30 seconds of the show. However, the show is/was total crap. Why? It sounds like they are trying to award games based on who paid them the most. How do I know this? They announced the Best RPG nominatees.

Out of six games, not one of them was Japanese.

The first time it was on 2-3 years ago every single game that won an award was on Xbox.

TV and movies are still trying to feel their way around games and what to do with them. There's still this childish stigma that goes with them but they seem to have recognized that the main audience is now 18-29....to a degree. So they try to appeal to them and, since they know nothing about the actual industry, use popularity/sales figures/propoganda to decide what's going on.

In order to make it legit, you first have to have a good supporting infrastructure in place. So, until we get shows that talk about games the way people talk about movies (ie. as an art form rather than a glorified commercial), it'll remain a popularity contest.

Well, considering that TV networks actually make most use out of movies, I do not think that will be happening. We already have a lot of video game dedicated TV shows though. In Canada, we have had Video And Arcade since I was a kid back in the NES days.

But that's just the problem, it's all for kids. I mean shows and actual analysts for papers and other TV shows who take it as a serious art form. THAT's going to take a while

Besides, the best show BY FAR is ElecPlay and they are still too childish at times IMO (see Tommy Tallarico)

I still love SA's take on Judgement Day:

Judgment Day

Think "X-Play hosted by a mongoloid and his comparatively normal friend" then think "change the channel" if your brain hasn't already gone into shock, permanently destroying your motor functions. Tommy Tallarico's review scores make absolutely no sense, but I'll attempt to explain them with this handy scoring chart.

Does the game have explosions?
If yes, add 3 points (out of ten)
If no, subtract 4

Are said explosions better looking than Halo 2's?
If no, subtract 6
If yes, subtract 1

Does the game contain farts, burps, pooping, or sexual innuendo?
If all of the above, add 10
If three of the above or less, subtract 3

How's the game play, story, and overall fun factor?
If excellent, add 1
If horrible, add 1
