Well, definately going for the honeymoon. This would be Nov 20-26. I've got some events planned (bought a bunch of tickets), but still have plenty of time to visit friends and the like. Anybody want to meet up?

I'm around, definately up for going out or whatever. Not into the scene especially, but fun yes!

KluYa lurks in the city somewhere. Zeus works there, but his wife doesn't allow him a social life (jk big guy).

I haven't hit T.O. in about 2 weeks, so I'm definately game. 26th is unfortunately my niece's first birthday. And If I'm not there for that I'm a dead man. I think I have Shelley's Gmail address, I'll send something there.

If you're downtown on the 24th, I'd love to have lunch. I'm out of the office until that day all of next week and am off on Friday (I find out if I get designated that day). I'm RIGHT downtown, right by Union Station (it's Toronto's Grand Central Station). Let me know. You can call me at 416-865-0200 ext 3257. It's 10-digit dialing in the city, so remember to put the area code before the number

Okay, we're here. Wireless access is flaky but works.

I was told that Toronto is pretty diverse. So far in the hotel, there was an Indian manager, a South African, and a Frenchman (or French-Canadian) when I first walked in. Haven't seen or heard anybody say "eh?" or "aboot" yet, but French is everywhere.

Still getting used to the metric system somewhat. 78 cents would be a great price for gas if it was by the gallon.

And yes, I'd like to meeet you Kluya. Actually, it would be great if we all hooked up at the same day. I'm pretty much free today. Got some misc shows planned Tues/Thurs/Sat night, but we're free during the afternoon/morning and other nights. Any good bars or hangouts out here?

Alright, found the Days Inn webpage. I'll give a call from work later on today or tomorrow. I might have to have an impromptu 'sick day' this week.

edit: Don't know of any good bars etc near the airport. I generally rely on friends knowledge of T.O. when I go there. I just trail behind.

I'm actually free all day on Friday, so I could come down and say "hi" as well.

I'll call you guys tomorrow night. I'll also check here to see if there's been any updates.

Gray, are you free friday as well? I figure we can all meet up friday night and get dinner, go to a bar or something of the sort.

We're goin to the ROM friday (its free after 4:30) but we'll be free afer that.

We drove arond the area of the hotel a bit today....we are in a very culturally diverse part of town, but I cant find much of interest.

Anyway, we'll be checking the board a lot..we only have stuff planned mostly for the later parts of th days, so any suggestions on good shopping places, stuff to do, etc would be apprecciated!

I'm free Friday night. Dinner and whatever sounds good, there's tons of great restaurants in the ROM's vicinity. Mod Club is also close, I think.

http://www.google.com/maps?q=1677+Wilso ... 3065&hl=en

see if that works. If you scroll to the East, you'll see you are quite close to Yorkdale Mall. Not bad in itself, but it's also close to a major Subway line that can take you south to Union Station (Skydome CN tower) or further. I'm a mass transit newb, and I can use it. I believe there is a stop right at the ROM actually.

Once downtown, or Front Street area, there's a lot of cool shit. Hockey Hall of Fame... but you're American so that likely holds Zero excitement. Neat shops on Queen Street, as well as CityTV. Hmmmn, Eaton Centre, Kensington market, as well as all the theatres down there.

Damn, I'm coming up blank on things close to your hotel however. It's near the airport which is not a place I go to 'throw down'. I'll consult with ppl around and see what there is.

I was in Toronto a few years ago and I heard quite a few people say "aboot" and "eh?". It wasn't as exaggerated as in South Park, but it definitely happened.

That seems highly odd. The only people who I know who use "eh" were born in the UK; and sometimes on Canadian comedy shows. I have never ever in my life heard someone use the word "aboot" except on South Park.

On the other hand, I have heard people from Nova Scotia refer to a couch as a "Coach" and a house as a "hoase", which is likely due to their Scottish backgrounds since that resembles the dialect of Scotland. Newfoundland English (Irish backdgorund) and Acadian English (Breton/Cornish/French background) are also very unique sounding dialects. Generally Canadians speak the exact same as people in the Northern States. Some pockets of Maine and a few others have very unique accents, like some of pockets of Eastern Canada. I do remember someone from Maine calling Bar Harbour "Boh Hobah" and pronouncing the word yes like "yeeass". I also find that a lot of Californians have similar accents to Canadians.

Highly odd or no, it happened. I remember, because I thought it was funny that I actually heard people talking like that. In fact, the couple I sat next to at an O's/Blue Jays game did it. They're the ones I remember the most distinctly. Like I said, it was not nearly as exaggerated as on South Park or other shows, but I could definitely hear it in the process of talking to them.

You can check out Casa Loma, it's quite popular. There are tour buses that start out downtown (by Union Station) that will take you to all the good places. I'd seriously recommend that and it's cheap, about $20 or $25 a person. Check out www.toronto.ca and see if there's things there. The hockey hall of fame is right downtown (Yonge and Front) and is walking distance from the CN Tower, which you gotta check out at least once. If you go there, eat at a place called The Marche in the BCE place (the hall of fame is in that building), it's awesome. There are also lots of plays going on downtown, check out www.mirvish.com for most of the big ones. On Toronto.ca you might some package deals with dinner.

Yorkdale Mall is a great place to go for shopping. It's right off the subway line (University-Spadina line, look for the Yorkdale exit; if you're driving, it's east of the airport on the 401 and Dufferin / Yorkdale road). Vaughn Mills is the new enormous mall. It's at the 400 (go east on the 401 from the airport, then north on the 400) and highway 7.

I'd say catch a Leafs game since there's nothing like watching hockey in the center of the hockey world, but Montreal is in town this weekend, tickets are insanely expensive. But ifyou're around Saturday, it's fun watching it in a bar, especially at Gretzky's bar (99 Blue Jay Way, right by the Skydome/Rogers Centre).

As for culturally diverse places, there's Chinatown on Spadina (go to the 427 south then Gardiner East, then go to Spadina Ave exit and go north a bit) and Greektown on Danforth Avenue (ask the hotel conceirge how to get there). There's also a place up north a bit (at Steeles and the 404) called Pacific Mall which is in another asian part of town (without exaggeration, there's 3 or 4 Chinatowns, the one I mentioned earlier is the main one) that is basically a huge Chinese mall, full of all asian stuff, including burned games and dvds. Don't really know where LIttle Italy is, but if you ask the hotel conceirge, I'm sure he/she can help.

Toronto truly is an extremely culturally diverse town, you just have to go across town to get to the areas.

We went and picked up tickets at the rogers center for some of our shows. (Medeival times and theory of a deadman) Then we decided to cruise around downtown to see what all was there. We stopped on Bay st and parked illegally apparently (in a no standing zone)..we found a ticket when we got back : /

anyway, we walked around, stopped in a few shops, a big mall...and then walked to Paramount to see Jarhead....not many fat ppl in toronto that Ive seen...I can see why, you walk everywhere! lol

Its been nice so far...the Paramount theater has an awesome view of the city.

We're going to a Blue Man group show tomorrow night.

How's about some lunch? I'm busy that night, but I'll be in town during the early aft. That's the day I find out if I passed my exam and will become designated, so I have the day off :-) I can bug Gray to come along

BTW, a good place to park on Bay Street between Lakeshore and Front street. Go west on the 401, then south on the 427, then east on the Gardiner Expressway, then get off on Bay Street exit (this puts you on Lakeshore Ave) then make a left onto Bay Street. It's behind the Air Canada Centre (hockey/basketball arena) and it's $11 from 6am to 6pm. You can go right to the ACC and go underground to the subway and the PATH, which is a network of underground pathways with shops and stuff that runs for about 10 square blocks.

If you want to do some shopping, just take the subway up to Yorkdale exit (University-Spadina line). It's HUGE and has everything.

See you guys tomorrow

Alright, I booked tomorrow off. Zeus, get on your damn MSN and talk to me damnit! I'm actually on for once.

So Sine and Shelley, you got a taste today of how wonderful our weather is up here. Sucks eh!
I figured I'd rather come for at least lunch tomorrow because driving in on the 401 tomorrow night could be a nightmare.
