He got knocked out by Chuck Liddel around the middle of the second round in their third fight. All I can say is the guy had a hell of a career, too bad it's over. I am not entirely sure, but I would not be surprised if he had a few more "legend" fights in the future. The issue is that most of the major UFC legends are in a smaller weight class (like Ken Shamrock and Royce Gracie).

Was at a party at a buddies who bought that PPV, people were real surprised that Mir got worked by that chubby out of shape looking guy. My friend is a big Mat Hughes fan and is pumped for his fight against Gracie in a few months.

I have an enormous amount of respect for Couture because of what he's done, and more imporantly, how he carries himself. He's not a shit talker, he doesn't disrespect people, he just does his job and does it well. So it's unfortunate to see him leave, but that's 2 out of 3. I think Liddel has unquestionabley bested him.

I think Couture could probably beat all of the other lightheavies in the UFC, but he's 42 now. (Or is he 43?) I completely understand wanting to retire from MMA, it's punishing on the body.

I'm a big Matt Hughes fan myself. The guy just owns the lightweight division, especially in grappling.
