My neighborhood's parking situation is fairly unworkable, and parking on anything other than the major streets is pretty impossible after 6PM or before 8AM, but the major streets have a two-hour parking limit (which is not really followed well, because the side street parking is so bad).
This has been pretty OK since I've been working from home, but pretty much every time I get sick and either sleep through moving my car or just forget to by way of grogginess, as I did today, I end up with another parking ticket, which range from $30 to $45.
This makes me angry for a variety of reasons, but skipping a few intermediary steps, basically it's not my fault the parking situation is so bad, or my fault that I got sick, but nevertheless I get penalized for it anyway. The parking restrictions in this neighborhood amount to more or less a tax on poor people - middle-class to rich communities wouldn't stand for this shit, and regulations would be changed after people bitched hard enough, I'd imagine. And the City of L.A. really isn't helpful when it comes to getting them paid off - no online system, and if you get enough tickets to get booted, you have to *go to* the city offices and pay them in cash, which by that point is usually in excess of $500.
What I really would like is if our governments would collectively stop pretending that they take too many actions designed to make poor people's life easier - other than welfare programs, which I don't go on, because, you know, I have skills and I'm not lazy.
Not meaning to shit on people on welfare (though some of them could stand to be shit on - maybe we could start placing sewage treatment plants in their houses? ), since I'm guessing it could be pretty hard to find unskilled work or work in hard-hit industries, but really I've never, ever had a problem finding work as long as I've been trying really hard...
Anyway, as I said, I wish we could collectively stop bullshitting. I'd actually rather prefer it at this point if the "Reason" section of my next ticket said "Tax on Poor Fuckers" instead of some assbag 2-hour violation.
