Are US Internet expenses this expensive everywhere?

I was just talking to someone who is paying 80 dollars US for a 3.0 Mbps DSL service. I find this kind of odd because I have the same service myself, and it is only costing me $39 Canadian; and I have no 1 year contract obligation either.

$35-$40 CND a month here for 5 Mbps down 2 Mbps up cable. I hear americans pay crazy high-speed rates. Canada also has a higher in-home rate of high-speed internet connection of 80% (of those who have internet) vs. 70% for the USA.

I pay about $35/month for DSL. I forget which speed DSL I am getting but it's fast enough for me.

80 dollars is too high. My bill from the cable comapny for basic cable, high def service, dvr service, and 5mbps high speed is only $110 a month. I think by itself the internet would be $25-35.

I think my internet is $30. Might be $50, haven't checked my bill in awhile.

I'm fine with it either way. I never have service interruptions and it's blazing fast (plus if I ever get shut off I've learned enough about the cable box to cut it back in illegally).

Whoah, $12.99, what company is that with?

Also, 15mbps is damn good for 40 bucks (actually that's fucking insane), unforunately hardly anywhere has a decent fiber optics network to support the system at this point in time.

Verizon is currently installing Fiber into my neighborhood...$43 I think for the lowest version, which is 5mbps / 2mbps...I LOVE that upload :P

Comcast cable is 8mbps / 386kbps and is almost $50/month.

We pay nothing for 6Mb/512Kb

Perks of working for the cable company. Well actually, we get it cheaper than most ppl working there because Sine works at the NOC.
