It surprised me that it sold for 3 times as much as Myspace went for. But google has a lot of faith in it as a growing industry.

I want to know if they're actually going to use the YouTube brand and/or IP, or if they just wanted to buy a competitor.

Since it has the recognition, likely they will. Though, truthfully, Google Videos is the site I prefer.

One major problem that Youtube will have now is that a lot of material, such as MMA and TV shows, will likely be all removed and banned.

I was wondering the same thing. I personally prefer the interface for YouTube, but Google seems to have a better quality video algorithm.

I've read it will stay as seperate entities, Youtube and Google video will be seperate from each other.

And supposidly Youtube has been getting in good with a lot of the entertainment companies. So copyrighted stuff may not go away like you think....

That's certainly good to know. There are some things on it like MMA matches which usually get taken down within days, but the thing is, they are still up there for days, I would imagine Google would have staff take them down much more quickly. South Park, I am not incredibly sure if they are alright with having most of the episodes up there or not, but that's where I generally watch them.

New economic model, if you can get people to hound you for copyright infringement, you're marketable.

They're buying eyeballs, so they're keeping the YouTube name.

Unfortnately, video quality algorithm means squat (past a certain basic level of quality). :)

In many ways, the quality of software is far less important than things like marketing/popularity/etc. Thus the popularity of Myspace, YouTube, etc over products that are "technically" superior.

Probably true though it doesn't hurt to have those ultra fast load times that I tend to get at Google that I don't with YouTube. :) I'd take the UI over the better quality videos anyday. :)
