What would cause Explorer (not IE, Windows Explorer) to randomly crash and restart itself whenever I'm using it?

when explorer restarts itself the task bar dissapears, the system tray resets itself...it doesn't really hurt anything I can see, but it closes out my Explorer windows. I'm just worried there's a bigger problem behind this.

Anyone have any ideas?

Spyware, Virus, Unsigned Device Driver.

More importantly, what did you most recently install on your system?

Have you visited any "questionable" sites with "questionable" content?

When exactly did this start happening?

Have you attempted a system restore by going to Start --- Control Panel --- System Restore and selecting a date prior to when the explorer crashes began to happen?

Has anyone else other than you used your PC in the past...3 days? Week? 14 days? Month? With or without your knowledge?

hmm...well I AM in the Supreme Commander Closed Beta...and this thing is far from a polished program...

I'm asking around the forums there to see if anyone else has had the problem.
