this isn't a game thread.....I need a laptop. under 1300 hundred smackers with certain qualifications.....
ok.....
widescreen
under 1300
dedicated graphics card as high end as possible in the price range because I do a lot of work with strata and 3dstudio max.
at leasst a gig of rap
at least 120 gigs on the hard drive
dvd and cd burning capability
15"+display so 15 or 17 inch......It's gonna be used for a lot of graphic work........and games.......
dual core processor.... so intel core duo or core 2 duo......the athlon x2 is also on the list.....
really that's all that matters. go out there and find me a sexy laptop so I can really get down and dirts and finally have a working computer at home rather than having to drive disks back and forth from my apartment to my house multiple times a week.

Check out Canada Computers or Tiger Direct. Don't have the time to do it right now

What, is dell.com down? I just tried configuring an XPS laptop with all of the stuff you mentioned and it came in at $1,483.
Edit: it might not have had DVD burning, I didn't look for that. But you should be able to get close to what you need from Dell.

As far as intel core duo or core 2 duo... stay the hell away from core duo. It's obscenely outdated compared to core 2 duo.
And for $1300 USD, good luck getting all that INCLUDING a good dedicated gfx card.

Is this the type/specs you are looking for (this price is Canadian, but the site ships/sells to the US).

Then there is this one. Acer site says it has an ATI X1300 graphics chip in it. Note that it also comes with 2GB of RAM. This uses Windows XP Media Center Edition.

And then there is this one that works out to be about $1240 after exchange. This one comes with a nVidia 7300 Go graphics processor.

So yea, in the end, I can't really find anything in the $1300 USD price range with a graphics card that I would deem adequate :p

I just got a HP laptop at Fry's with a Turion, a gig of RAM, 120GB HD, DVD burner with LightScribe, 15" widescreen and ATI Radeon Express 200M for $1000.
The graphics card probably isn't what you need, but you could see if there's a higher-end model with a better one. It's one of the Pavilion models.
The display is nice and crisp and it's fast enough for the price range. That being said, the touchpad driver is one of the worst I've ever seen, and the right shift key occasionally sticks. But I suppose it's adequate enough for the price.

Right, the price was too high. But my point was it took me, oh, one minute to find that. Spend a few hours and you can come closer.
