We have completed our first decade =)
So what do you guys think of Chrono Trigger nowadays?

Trigger along with FF6 have yet to be topped in the RPG world.
Amazing, so many RPG games have been released since yet none can be labelled as "better". Better graphics? Yes. Better storyline? Sure. More gameplay? You bet. But better? Not yet IMO.
Some have come close (I personally loved Cross and FF9) but nothing has beaten them. Kinda like Mario and 3D platformers (not 3D action or Action/RPG, platformers)

Way to go guys. What were you doing ten years ago?

Checking the messages on the first draft of this board, literally.
I've come so far since then - now, instead of checking messages on an internet board with my afternoons, I'm...
Hmmmm. Why do I still hang out with all of you losers, anyway?

10 years ago I had just turned 16, just got back from Jamaica and was probably playing Final Fantasy III on SNES...... Pretty much what I did this morning before work, except the FF6A version of the game, and playing it on DS Lite instead of SNES.
At this point in time 10 years ago, Chrono Trigger was still all the rage, and that was the first game I talked about when I came to the Shrine, which would be a few months from now. Wild Arms was also around that time, and Earthbound, Mario RPG, and Terranigma were also around this time, a couple years earlier. The whole Starcraft craze wouldn't be too far away, and we had several posters who took names from late SNES RPGs including: Sabin, Cyan, and Crono. I also read fantasy books back then, that's where I got my name (not the 60's song). I was a HUGE Civilization 2 addict (and would be for about half a decade more). Earth 2025 and Utopia weren't far away either, I think Oracle found those; I still play.

One thing that is true is that all of us started out playing videogames, now a number of us actually work in the videogame development and publishing industry.

Ahhh...10 years ago. I was a chat whore lol I was living at home in my parent's basement and all I did was pretty much chat online.
Bianca's was the first place I ever chatted. Apparently, it's the first web based chat
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bianca.com
Then shortly after, I discovered PowWow....how I miss that software.

Man, 10 years ago i was 16, in HS and posting during class in the computer lab because i could finish our assignment of the day in 5-10 min. It was a year or so later that we figured out that Tort was in my grade and in my same school... small world!

Ten years ago I was 13 and in grade 8 :p Shortly after (that summer) I bought my PSX and Wild Arms and then I really got into this board. I played FF III for the SNES pretty much religiously back then, being a a completion whore with it (all characters lvl 99, all spells, maxed out stats from espers while leveling, etc...).
Yea.... fuck me I'm glad I'm not 13 anymore, lol.

10 years ago I was 15 finishing up my junior year and had just gotten the Internet. I didn't really have any friends and had never even gone out with a girl! I was really into FF7 then too. haha I think I had just gotten my PS1 so I could play it.

And 10 years later all that has changed is you graduated...grats!
Geeze, what was I doin 10 years ago? I think I dropped out of school and was working at Incognito Software when I found this place. I spent a lot of time here initially and playing Ultima Online - during work hours. Bought my first place across the street from Luvaffair (club) shortly after and disappeared into a constant drunken stupor - which is why I only popped in sporatically for a long time after.
Wow, 10 years...scary.

it is surprising this community has not changed much in 10 years, we really have not added many people, yet not lost many either
I was 12.... yea, my biggest worry then was getting back home to watch cartoons probably.

We lost G-man, Nadia/Redleader, Viper, Cyan, Sabin, that guy from Hawaii (name started with C, Chalkboard maybe), Crono died or something. Though yeah, our core group has remained quite intact.

ManaMan and Tort haven't been around in a long time either. Wolfsamurai also.

I'd add KluYa to the list of missing, but I know that son of a bitch must still be lurking. He pops in every now and then.
I think we lose a few from the herd every time the domain for this place changes. Though it does seem we are somewhat stable now.

Well,
Kluya is most likely still "lurking" I suppose; I always found that word funny for the description of someone who reads forums =P
Speaking of KluYa, in case I am mistaken, he played Utopia/Earth too in the beginning, so I am wondering now who it was who introduced me to the game, if it was him or you? I still play it by the way =)
The game peaked in numbers just as World of Warcraft was coming out, but the game took a most of the online gaming community away from everything, Utopia dwindled in size from 120,000 down to 30,000 very quickly, in about 2 years I would say; though that 30,000 that remains is a fairly static number now. All of the same old Alliances are there, including Absalom, if you remember anything about the game's political structure. Sometimes old habits die hard; it is just a DAMN good thing Utopia takes so little time =)

I was way too obsessive with Utopia. I can't remember how the hell I started playing that game. I don't think it was someone on this board who got me into.

To play Utopia well it kinda takes up a lot of time :-\

I find Utopia only takes time if you are a Monarch or have political interest and lack a reputable name to yourself (it means you'll have to be loud, post a lot in forums, and talk a lot in chats). I have neither of those problems, and I am online nearly every single day multiple times, so it is not an inconvenience for me. Though I certainly DO know how long Utopia can take, I had crazy days back when I was younger when I would spend hours a day on it. For a long time now I have just sat in top Kingdoms and playing it age after age; quite a habit =)

Forget this 'social networking' crap that's so prevalent with the web these days. First with the Aquademesne and then continued on with tOWS was were my online socializing began and ended. Although I've dissappeared for the last year or so.
Anyway, 10 years ago I had just met Zeus and convinced him that if he was a true rpg gamer he should post here. So yeah, blame me for his foolery if you'd like.
The thing I like about this place is the sence of pemanence. The people don't really change, and neither do the topics. It's a nice security blanket.

Haha, I feel sorry for a lot of the people that quit and didn't come back. Even the craziest ones like G-man =P
Even though we fought, insult each other, slap each other, kick each other, dragon punch each other through the ceiling.... I do think that most of us still appreciate all the elements of this place =P
Cheers!
