Ebrahimi later came under an official investigation, which is still ongoing. She faces fines, whip lashing or worse for her violation of Iran's morality laws.
Why would a woman of considerable popularity stick around when she could face crap like that?

I doubt she can leave now. You can't get across the border in America if you're under investigation, not legally anyway.

Even in America, she could request amnesty. Crimes like that are way too extreme for even the extreme right-wing guys here.
