I may march on the Federal building in Los Angeles today with a sign of some sort. I'm not even kidding. This is bullshit.

Didn't Clinton pardon a whole whack of people in his last year? This isn't a partisan thing, it's a system thing. It's not like you can make him look worse. Bush can't run again, what does he care what people think of him? He's got his cushy multi-million dollar job waiting for him in a year and a half.

in comparison to Ford pardoning Nixon, this is not news. Also, who didn't see this coming? I'm more surprised he didn't give him a full pardon.

Ford pardoned Nixon because the country needed to get over Watergate. This isn't the same shit.

Buddy, I could give a rat's ass about me in this context. I'm not going to really be hurt by all this shit, too much, anyway. It's other people I'm more worried about.

Lies! Ford pardoned Nixon, because Nixon taped EVERYTHING! He likely secretly threatened to leak out certain tapes if he didn't pardon him.

Oh, BTW, our governor is likely going to lose his re-election because he pardoned a bunch of his cronies the same week Katrina hit. (I'm damned surprised that he even won the primaries against a long-time Republican senator.)

No, she's out, possibly having signed already for the $1mil she is to be paid for relating her jailtime experiences to some media organization.

There's a difference between having a a sentence commuted and being pardoned. The pardoning will come later.

Libby had his sentence commuted because of a backroom deal where it was agreed he wouldn't spend a day in jail if convicted.

While looking through Clinton's pardons (which the supporters of the decision are quick to point out), I found an article written about Clinton (BugMeNot required) about his reasonings behind the many pardons he gave out. One paragraph was telling:

On Jan. 20, 2001, I granted 140 pardons and issued 36 commutations. During my presidency, I issued a total of approximately 450 pardons and commutations, compared to 406 issued by President Reagan during his two terms. During his four years, President Carter issued 566 pardons and commutations, while in the same length of time President Bush granted 77. President Ford issued 409 during the slightly more than two years he was president.

I had no idea the POTUS actually issued that many pardons.

If your IQ is below 80, then I'm talking out of my ass. ;)
