And I thought he wasn't involved in this stuff from the earlier reports. Wondering how much of this is real and how much is grandstanding by the lawyers

Well, it's just like...if you have that good a thing going for you, why fuck it up by getting even tangentially involved in that shit? I mean, if you really can't control your I-want-to-see-animals-fuck-each-other-up urges, at least go to one of the dozens of countries that still don't give a shit about it.

Not only that, but apparently they shot and killed a bunch of dogs that weren't doing well.

Thats the thing that pisses me off. Dog fights, while cruel, arent that much worse than bull fighting or even hunting, but the way they treat the dogs in between fights and how they raise them is inhumane. Those dogs are starved, coked up, beaten, and mis treated while they dont fight. The fighting seems like the least cruel activity in comparison.

It is very fucked up, especially to those of us who love animals and treat their dogs as their children.
I'd love to give the guy the benefit of the doubt since he's only been indicted, and I hate how the media turns on athletes so fucking quickly, but it is his property. Whether he was directly involved or not, there's some unforgivable level of guilt there.

I don't know about "unforgivable", man.
A lot of people raise animals all over the world for a lot of different things. There are a *lot* of illegal dogfights out there, as well as cockfights, etc. And remember, people eat a lot of meat, and the meat-packing industry treats its animals far, far worse than Vick did.
I'm not saying I support illegal dogfighting, but it's not like Vick invented that shit. And does the fact that it's dogs really make it that much worse? If he'd been fighing chickens instead, would you feel better about him?
I just don't think it's that easy to judge. Kind of sad, really - he might lose his career over this.

I'd probably refute that. Regulations have come a long way in the industry, especially post The Jungle.

The Jungle dealt with the conditions for the workers, not the animals.

Dude, as far as I remember, The Jungle raised the level to somewhere around "we won't sell the sausage anymore if the scraping boy falls in the sausage hopper".
I'm not saying that didn't need to be done, and all, and things are better now than then, but I can't support a system that doesn't exercise its animals, and/or pumps them full of horomones (as opposed to good veterinary medicine).

That's precisely why they are illegal. Bulls are naturally going to fuck somebody up when they wave a cape around over and over again. Eventually the bull gets pissed off, and ultimately, the bull always loses in the end. While he's being groomed, though, they pamper him like he was a golden cow. Not a bad life, even with the bad ending.
Dogs are fighting against EACH OTHER in dogfights, and you're betting on who's going to be the winner. That type of competition ensures a hostile training environment, instead of expecting a loss (with an occasional gouging) from the bull.

If wolves were smart enough to do it, they would. Cows are food animals, and they basically evolved that way. I'm not saying that the full extent of what slaughterhouses do is justifiable, but if the meat was exercised and lean, we would be eating more fish and chicken.
Watch a few Alton Brown episodes on meat some time. You'll notice that the muscles with the least amount of exercise get the most attention for quality steak.

I wonder how this affects my fantasy football draft? Hmm...
He's screwed (though probably not THAT screwed).

I'm not sure what your point is, because I think bull fighting is illegal most places.

Uhhh, yeah, except Spain. What's -your- point?
My point with the bullfights and dogfights is that the bulls are treated well up until the end. The dogs are not; they have a really cruel life throughout. I don't exactly agree with either, but I can understand why Spain has their bullfights.

You connected the treatment prior to the fight with the legality, yet both are illegal in most places.

Dude is fucked. All of his co-defendants are pleading guilty.

And yet he stands by his not guilty plea.
How long before he gets a plea bargain, pays a large fine with no/minimal jail time, and gets let go by the Falcons and spends years fighting his way back into the league?
I say give it a month

I don't see it happening. The case is too public, and if nothing else, he'd get shot by some PETA group 10 minutes after he left the courthouse.

Ever eat chicken nuggets or fried chicken before? You did? Really?

That's what you're responsible for funding.
I say let the chickens die in combat and go to Valhalla!
On a side note, I would really like to see who would win between three wolves and a bear.
