I may have asked you this last time I crossed the bridge, but I'm not sure. We're going to the Aerosmith concert on Saturday so I'm looking for some reccommendations for restaurants and bars to go to. Last time we were there we ate at St. James Gate, which was fantastic. I didn't see too many bars/clubs, but maybe I just wasn't looking hard enough.

Where to go for a quiet drink? Where to go to get trashed and boogie? Eats?

Whoah! Sorry I missed this. I have been fairly occupied this weekend =P

The Gate, I like the Steak Sandwich there. My favourite place is Mavor's in the Confederation of the Arts center, it's a bit pricey, but worth it; they have GREAT martinis which are so hard to find on this island (the only other place that I have found that serves great ones is a place called the 42nd Street Lounge, in the upstairs of a restaraunt called Off Broadway, half the staff is gay so you know it's classy).

Piazza Joes is good place, an Italian restaraunt, it converts to a night club during the nights. Peakes is also a great place, they usually have quite good bands there, lately they have a female led band called Junkmale playing, hot lead singer with a great voice.

Good bars without cover: Gahan House (pub, you can get awesome food before midnight on Saturdays, and it has GREAT beer, I recommend the Harvest Gold. actually, I recommend their sampler, 6 bucks for 6 glasses of beer). Churchill Arms, a smaller pub, but often they have awesome bands playing, sometimes they have bad nights, always a great place for a pitcher of Rickards. As I said, Mavor's and 42nd Street Lounge are also good places.

Bars with cover that I recommend: Peakes, it's 10 bucks, and drinks are expensive, but it's a great summer spot (only open during the summer season). Piazza Joes is my favourite nightclub, dark, fog, lasers, great music, very hot women, 5 dollars. Jakes (Yacht Club) is a great place as well, Saturdays, 5 dollars. Baba's is a small crowded pub that is a restaraunt by day, has great Lebanese, usually a good band during the night; costs 5 bucks, but I usually don't prefer this place. Some people like the Velvet Underground nightclub, personally I feel it's kind of dirty, I wouldn't recommend bringing a girl home from this place. There is Hunter's Ale House, also 5 dollars, fairly large. The huge club I used to work at Myron's got closed down. There are some other places on Victoria Row (the street with all the fountains and stuff on it, if you ever see it) all seasonal, I assume they're good, but I haven't really gone to anything there in a while. The Olde Dublin Pub is a great place as well, it's one of the larger pubs, perhaps the largest in town, 5 bucks; this is where you'll hear bands that cover Dropkick Murphy's, Great Big Sea, etc...

But dude, next time you're down here, give me a heads up, I'll tell you exactly where to go to have a good time (based on the day of the week, the bands/occaision). Get your people to meet up with my people and we can get some pitchers.

Yeah, I posted this a little late. I'll keep these reccommendations in mind for next time.

The Gate was as good as I remember (very good bruschetta). I had a beer in the place next to Piazza Joe's (some ale house, don't remember the name) while the girlfriend was shopping. We actually stayed in the Duchess of Kent Inn right across from PJ's. Do not reccommend it to any of your friends staying on the island under the age of 40. The owner is a kind, but very annoyingly talkative woman who spent the first 20 minutes of our time there throwing pamphlets at us and telling us about each individual heritage building, tour, museum, etc... we just couldn't get away. It's a very old house with a tiny shower with no water pressure and overall, really antiquated idea of decoration. Better suited for seniors. Oh, and the bed was very uncomfortable.

Anyway, I really liked the look of Churchill Arms from outside, but never went in. The Velvet Underground (also on the same block as we were staying) was described to me as a small The Dome or The Palace in Halifax... so we avoided it like the plague.

Girlfriend was sick for half the trip, which only gave me more of a headache. Next time I go there will be with the dudes and a lot of booze. Thanks for the comments!
