Actually, to be honest, I think this place would be best served by removing both the debate over titles and the titles themselves.

It's funny, because I did give the incident where I deleted kali's post some thought. The fallout over all of it made me mad enough to shatter a glass bottle that could have taken my eyes out, so I decided to look more deeply into it, but in the end, I had to admit that I'd been wrong and that I had indeed abused my admin powers.

Given that I usually consider myself to be pretty committed to principle, it was kind of surprising for me to find out how greased that slope was - especially considering how "minor" the powers in question were anyway. I think the applicable truism is "power corrupts".

This debate over titles just seems to inspire bad feeling. I haven't even looked at mine, and will be trying to avoid doing so. (EDIT: Apparently I do not have one as of yet, which makes me feel wonderful and good.)

To be honest, I think kali is right about where I was - about to piss off nearly everyone here. But we need admins, Sine *is* gone a lot (though I will refrain from comment on Kup's title), and when kali's not making glib titles for everyone he's a pretty good one (and I sure don't want to do it anymore). So let me cast my vote that we just ditch the titles, all go back to where we were a few days ago, and just agree that the whole point of administratorship is less about being able to do things other people can't do than it is maintaining the board, and keeping it free of spam and trolling.

Heh, Nev, I don't think anyone took anything seriously except you (no, not even Seeker). Maybe zeus, who started the thread, had a legitimate beef...but it definitely wasn't with titles, considering he expressed appreciation for em no less than twice.

For the record (since I deleted most of em before I crashed), your title ended up being "The Sandiest Vagina" or Crotch or something...everyone else got titles based on something they (or someone else) said/did in the thread:

If people like their titles, keep em all you want. Or ask for something else....it really only takes a second to create one, and they are far better than the defaults.

A side-effect I like is that custom titles get rid of the graphic indicator of post number. I never liked that.

Actually, you can add a gif to any title...or you can create an exact copy of the default titles and simply remove the graphic.

The only thing I'm not sure of is if you must use specifically sized/default graphics OR if you can simply add any graphic.

Nah - It's actually pretty hard to do (since mods don't have true backend access as far as I could find - and rank images can only be used from PhBB path folders).

I managed to get it sorta working, but in the process trashed my old avatar out of existence apparently
