The bar is closed for Jack Thompson. No more drinky-drinky.

Which bar would that be? Hopefully the right one.
The scariest thing to me about Yacko is that he hasn't been disbarred yet. I think everyone's getting the general sense that he's an attention-whoring nut, but given the repeated legal fallacies in *every fucking case* he brings (many of the ad-hominem or "collateral damage" variety, like when he brought suit against Maxis for some kiddie-porn mod someone made for Sims 2), it terrifies me that the State Bar is still willing to let him even enter a courtroom, much less argue cases.
To me, that says something akin to "we will let any gotdam buffoon with a cheap suit practice law in this state, and if you would like proof here is the buffoon and cheap suit".
Or maybe his suits are expensive, but really, go go Florida Bar Association either way...

My mistake, I should have read the article first.
"The main gist is Thompson believes the Florida Bar, in their continued effort to have him disbarred, is collaborating against him with a gay activist attorney from Miami who owns NationalGayNews (NGN). In a move to discredit this other lawyer, Thompson submitted to the court graphic content from adult entertainment advertisers the NGN links to in an attempt to show that this other lawyer was in the business of distributing "hardcore porn to anyone of any age." Judge Adalberto Jordan of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida was not amused -- at all."
I admit I'm a bit curious as to the problems they're having ridding this man of his ability to practice law...

Penny Arcade said it best-- we NEED Thompson around. We NEED him to be running around wagging his dick at traffic. Why? Because if he gets disbarred and removed from the spotlight then we might actually have a COMPETENT person take his place in attacking video games.
As for the actual disbarment-- as the article says it's in the process... they tried to do it before but in the end the psychiatrist said he wasn't insane so they lost their main defense.
Seriously, the guy is a total looney anymore and EVERYONE knows it. Let him have his retarded and asinine cases because while this man is around representing the opposition to video games then the industry is in very safe hands.

Jack Thompson jumped the shark with Bully. He's really just a sideshow now like Britney or Lohan or Paris, never to be taken seriously

Bully was bait. Rockstar purposely marketed the way they did pre-launch to get Jack to take the bait. In the end, it was a Teen game, and Rockstar later marketed it as such.
Doesn't any remember the buzz about the game beforehand? Everybody was talking about it like it was a kid's version of GTA.

They make it hard because disbarring a lawyer is a very serious thing to do. That basically means that whatever he's learned as a lawyer and any degrees he has on the subject are pretty much useless. It's on par with firing a cop.

Yeah, but Yacko's legal stunts seem to me like they'd be, like, the equivalent of shooting at your suspects without cause, if you were a cop. Five or six times. And then zealously protecting the gay porn you seized from the last crackhead's house, and trying to defend that to your captain on the grounds that it was relevant evidence of some sort for the guy's upcoming drug trial, because he should obviously be locked away for even having that shit.
Not to say there aren't a whole bunch of cops like that, but after awhile, it's probably all right to say "We don't really need you on the force here, son."

And it was his continuous attacks on both Bully and Rockstar after the fact that made him jump the shark. Even if you may have thought some of his stuff made sense before that you just couldn't take him seriously anymore

Thanks to the Bully debacle isn't he barred from bringing any new suits against Rockstar?
I love that he's already attacking the new GTA... which isn't coming out ANY time soon. There's rumors there's a lawyer in the game that hates video games who gets killed. So he takes this as a death threat basically cause it "obviously is him". Haha it is YOU (but not a death threat) but can't do shit!

Well, you know, being barred from the bar would kinda keep you from bring any new lawsuits...

But he's not disbarred yet. I'm saying I coulda sworn there was a ruling where after the Bully case Thompson was forbidden from bringing new cases against Rockstar-- the whole reason why Rockstar baited him into attacking it.

Not sure how it is down there for professions, but up here, you can get kicked out (CPA, lawyer, etc.) even if you did nothing illegal if you're bringing bad rep to the profession itself. He really is in a lot of ways, they do have the grounds to kick him out of they want to IMO

I think his legal fallacies are probably grounds for dismissal regardless of his reputation. The Maxis suit where he sued them because someone else made a kiddie porn mod particularly struck me as bullshit. It was like suing a lawnmower company because somebody tried to mow people instead of grass with one of the mowers.
