Ha, i know a guy who was let go because of his blog. He had deragatory nicknames for all his co-workers that he bitched about, but it was obvious who he talking about and i think he may have mentioned the communications company he worked for. Some people are that stupid.
EDIT: after just a few seconds of thinking about it, i know two people who have been fired over blogs. The second guy was a teacher who had an entry blasting the principle, and how he would do his wife, haha. I remember him telling me he was called into the princ.'s office for an unknown meeting. When he sat down, the principle simply slid over a printed out screenshot of the blog. My friend said his heart sank to his feet. How uncomfortable would THAT be, jesus.

That's why you ALWAYS save your personal rants about loved ones and coworkers for a private blog that is invite only
I personally never understood blogging; at least not personal blogging. It's the lazy man's way of telling friends/family about themselves-- talk to them man... I'm not going to threadjack here, I just never understood the allure of posting blogs.

Principal, not principle. Learn proper English. Those sentences actually confused me for a few seconds.

I'm surprised none of you got this from Penny Arcade first...
It's an interesting debate. I think if she'd been *scrupulous* as to anonymity, Nintendo wouldn't have a moral leg to stand on, but I understand that wasn't really the case and the blog was kind of an open secret or something. I was pretty outraged when I heard about it this morning, but thinking about it more it's a pretty complex issue. You really can't shit-talk your coworkers in the way she did if they're going to find out about it in a way that makes the anonymity irrelevant, and that's basically what I understand happened, but it is a chilling thought in a lot of ways. I bet she's not feeling great about it.

yeah....\ posting pictures of yourself on a blog like that is pretty stupid...
My company's tried to fire workers for having anti-company facebook groups before... and even though I do love a good firing I had to shut them up since it was all done outside of work and there'd be no way to prove the identity of those who did things... think in the end though HR did let the employees know they were being monitored and the groups "disappeared"

It's not so bad, just think, it was only a few hundred years ago that if you spoke against your employers you would be executed for treason =)

Yeah, I was outraged when I heard about this, but I'm with Dutch.
Employers are full of horrible, horrible, lying bullshit. But they can't kill you anymore, just exile you, so I'm going with "progress made"!

Wouldn't a general warning be more effective than firing an employee/contractor outright? Unless she did get a warning, then yea, she's a moron.

Depends on what she said in it. If it's just minor insult throwing at coworkers then fine... but when you call your boss those sorts of things like she did... you're gone.

Haha, i caught that on my re-read but didnt care enough to fix it. Honestly, though, you are opening up a can of worms. If you want to go all spelling/grammar nazi you better never make a simple mistake ever again, which you know is impossible.

You fucking idiot. Ten years ago, nobody had a blog; and ten years ago, publicly refering to your boss as "a hormonal, facial-hair-growing, frumpy [woman]"
would have gotten you fired, as it would have fifty years ago, and as it likely will do fifty years from now.
Ten bucks says she was stupid enough to update the blog from work, and that's how they got her.

Didn't we used to have grammar whores running around correcting people regularly for a small time period? =o

I do kind of wish people had thicker skins sometimes, but that's just kind of how it is.
