I haven't bought a new sound card in years and years (been using the onboard sound on my Gigabyte mobo, always done me well) but when I did it was Creative. Fuck them.

They wouldn't bother to provide decent Vista drivers for their non-current products (I don't say legacy because the Audigy is still pretty recent) so this one guy does it on his own and they smack him down thereby alienating and infuriating their customer base? Oh smart move!

That's like Microsoft ditching support for XP.... which is happening this year

Wait, what? That's suicide. How many businesses are still on XP? Hell, there's some businesses still on 2000 (but that should be expired). No business with any brains is going to upgrade to Vista until SP2 or SP3 comes out, and even then, they should wait several months for the bugs from the SP to flatten out (and all of the driver issues).

I'd see MS backing down on that decision.

Actually business level support for XP will be much longer; but they do intend to stop selling XP machines in June, and by year's end discontinue free support for XP (basically, home users).

Anyway, here's an update to this thread: Creative backed down! haha

The quote should stop now :-)

Yeah, I have to say that I don't even like the interface on Vista. No .. in directories is really annoying. Also, while it's great that they are putting in burning built-in (LOOOOOOOOONG overdue!), the burning software sucks:

1. No display of how much room is left on the disc.
2. Standard ISO format is NOT the default option. It has this non-compatible option as the default.
3. Super slow burning. I could burn a CD in two minutes on Nero. Not so with Vista.
4. Doesn't even burn right. It will give you this message that it failed to burn, even though it's okay.

God damnit you two stop thread jacking! You're wrong, shut it-- go make another ignorant Vista bashing thread elsewhere.

I for one actually found this a very interesting issue and wanted to discuss what Eric had posted, so either stick to the thread or STFU

I found this all amusing.
Yeah, creative has gone down hill. I'll be using the on-board sound card on my new MB for the vista system I'm building for the TV. It was a great company way back when, now, they are like EA. Push it out now, make it work later.

The only sound cards I ever bought in the past were Creative... I'm happy with my onboard stuff but does anyone have any experience with what seems like the only 2 competitors? M-Audio I've never heard of, but I do remember Turtle Beach being good back in the day too.

Sucks HARD doesn't it? It's like Microshaft came out and said "OK, we FINALLY got Winblows working properly with XP - even if it is a shell of what it should be by now. Now that people have been trained for the last 12 years on how to actually use our insane program, why don't we just fuck it up for no reason? Well, to make more money since we can't fuck up the platform anymore now that it's finally fine. Can't have an OS that people will be good with for the next decade or anything. We'll add a couple of new security features that hardly anyone will want, need, or use and which will be broken in no time anyways. That way we can sell it to the IT guys and maybe minimize their bitching".

It's just irritating to use. It's like they moved stuff around in the GUI for the sake of change. No increased functionality IMO (I use XP on my desktop and am forced to use Shitsa on my laptop). I went to an Excel 2007 course where they explained why they fucked up the GUI in that program. I even asked the guy "why didn't they just add that little toolbar to put your own icons in and call it a day?". He gives me this schpeil that most people weren't using the features 'cause they were hidden or some shit like that. Hey, if you're too stupid to use the pull-down menu, you shouldn't be using the program to begin with. That's all they did, took the pull-down menu options and made them visual with some weird organization. What a waste of time, if it wasn't the fact they increased the rows to 1M + - very important for SAP dumps - I'd stick to Excel 2003.

It's the same fucking thing with the programs menu or even the shutdown menu. That one's in an odd place for no reason. And I don't buy this "it'll be better when you get used to it" bullshit. The entire idea of a GUI is that it's supposed to be both easy and logical, I'm not SUPPOSED to "get used to it". I learned how to use Windows 3.1, any upgrade from there should be very logical. For the most part it was up to XP, it's just the damned OS didn't work until then. So they decided to just fuck it up.

How's that for being wrong, Tess? :-) (waiting to see how many of Tess' buttons he pushed)

And yeah, I haven't bought a soundcard in years and likely won't ever again. The on-board ones are more than good enough for my purposes <-- see Tess, not a complete thread-jacking :-)
