This is an important step, but there needs to be regulations on how this works. I don't think Joe Public should be able to buy their own extension. There should be some level of control on what extensions are developed. After all, people like being able to group together these domains into common categories. (The .sex or .xxx is a good idea, actually.)

They did mention it'd be quite expensive to purchase and maintain them, didn't they? Outside of that I don't know what else they could do-- a regulations committee for every extension wouldn't be practical

It's apparently going to run at over $100,000 to register the extensions. As usual, it'll be a playground only for the super-rich or corporations

Well, that's a good thing. I seriously doubt somebody is going to pay $100,000 for the .fart extension.
