Youtube has a new top video, History of Dance falls to #2

You're a few months late.

Short version: Avril Lavigne fan site stated they wanted Girlfriend to be the top video. So they made a page with the video on it and told their readers "Reload as much as possible." YouTube stops recording redundant IP addresses soon, so this technique won't work.
But the people behind the fan site knew this.
Their actual strategy was to get people to report on their attempt, thus causing people who read the story to go watch the video. I find this clever because what they really did was game the press and the behavior of typical readers and viewers. I know I looked the video up when I read about this story.
