What was most amazing is that there are only TWO companies out there that do this.

Nah, there's more than that. Maybe not for the purpose of updating national maps, but there's contractors that will run up and down cable runs, for example, and geocode every inch of it.

Maybe it's just the roaming van thing (a la Street View) that is new.
