snowing / raining here in PA, I'm staying the fuck home. No reason to risk driving into work when I'm the admin of our remote access...

Let's see here, it is cold here, we just got 7" of snow and it won't get above freezing until Saturday. Most of the people in my office are not here today.

Pansies. If it goes above freezing here anytime from Dec to Mar, people go out in shorts

Ask Bovine about his -45C weather. You'd be weeping in the corner curled up in the fetal position licking your palms if you ever had to endure that :-)

it's weird weather here. We are getting some cold days, but then we get rain and temperatures of five above freezing the next day. We have received a lot of record high days, along with Some really cold ones.

wait, CELSIUS?

somebody convert that for me. :( or don't.

i mean, doesn't the "50 in 50" rule about having a 50% survival rate in 50F water after one minute start to apply to AIR at that point? O_o

Well, I know central Canada is getting colder temperatures then they have in over a decade this January.

Amazing what a simple Google search can come up with (it's -49F BTW)

Google is better than that: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=-45C+in+F

It's a decent calculator that does unit conversions (including money). If I need to do a quick calculation, it's often easier to open up a new tab (and Google is my homepage) than it is to open up the actual calculator app I use.

That's a bit easier. Didn't realize it had a built in calculator. Can be useful, thanks

We havent had power since 4am Wednesday. We tried to stick it out and hope it came back, but at about 2pm the house got down to 54F inside and we left.

...54F?

I barely ever run my heat and we've had several below-freezing nights here. It's probably about 58-62F in my apartment right now.

Well considering it was getting down to 15 that night and we have no power, and theres a danger of the pipes freezing...

I use it as a spell check all the time. I also use it for conversions a lot.

Californians, you fucking lizards call that cold?!

Just got back from my parents' place. Need to unpack a bit and unwind. Glad that we got our power back and can go back to normal.

We had the windstorms in Louisville last Sept (from Ike), and it knocked out the power. We had to worry about the heat, and the fridge/freezer food melting, but we could live there. With this, we were there for maybe 6 hours before we just said "Fuck this cold shit!", packed up, and move over to my folks' place.

Funny thing is that when we were dealing with the food in the fridge, the fridge food was fine (at 45F in the house), and the solution to the freezer food was to put it in a cooler outside (at 15F). We didn't really lose any food, but we couldn't stand to live there.

That would be pretty fucking insane to lose all power at that temp. We lost our heat once at my mom's old place when it was around that temp and regardless of how much you bundle up, you just can't get warm.

There's a rep of Cali's being pretentious whiners, that's why. Probably a bunch of jealous woven in there too since you don't have to deal with the harshness of winter like the rest of us......pansies :-)

it was...fulfilling.

Do you live in extreme cold? Does it get to be -45 celcius down there with wind chill?

Sure, if you're in your house you can bundle up but when it's cold and you have the wind blowing? It's much worse than trying to find shade when it's 40 celcius out there

Different strokes I guess. The cold has never bothered me, but extreme heat is horrible.

The cold my bothers me when it first crosses the 0 mark. After that I am fine for the remainder of the winter. I will take -30 windchill over rainy weather in January any day (we had a few rainy days; the weather here is a bit nuts bouncing around 20-30 degrees within hours sometimes). I am not a heat person myself either.

Its more a debate on which extreme you prefer, at this point... which i dont think is all that lame.
