"Maggot therapy (also known as maggot debridement therapy (MDT), larval therapy, larva therapy, larvae therapy, biodebridement or biosurgery) is a type of biotherapy involving the intentional introduction by a health care practitioner of live, disinfected maggots (fly larvae) raised in special facilities into the non-healing skin and soft tissue wound(s) of a human or other animal for the purposes of selectively cleaning out only the necrotic tissue within a wound (debridement), disinfection, and promotion of wound healing."

Discuss.

(I'm mostly just doing this to test a theory that this will get more responses than the economic crisis thread, proving that talking about maggots eating diseased flesh is actually more pleasant than talking about financial derivatives and also proving once and for all that we are well and truly fucked.)

This is pretty old news--I knew about this in seventh grade, and they've been doing it for, I dunno, centuries?

What works works. It works. I wouldn't like it, but if there's no choice, I would rather have a bunch of maggots CRAAAAAWLING IN MY SKIIIIIIN then gangrene.

I mean, gangrene sucks. A lot.

Yeah, maybe there's hope. I was hoping to get some "OH MY GOD THAT'S DISGUSTING" type of responses but I guess we're all too jaded?

Or it could be that we're more prone to being accepting of alternative ideas

That's swell. Get over to the other thread and explain the accounting of the economic crisis to me, you financial traitor of an accountant! :P
