A soldier in Afghanistan got roused to defend the base in a firefight in his skivvies.

Defense Secretary Robert Gates wrote:"Any soldier who goes into battle against the Taliban in pink boxers and flip-flops has a special kind of courage," Gates said, adding that Boyd may have hit on a new kind of psychological warfare. "I can only wonder about the impact on the Taliban. Just imagine seeing that — a guy in pink boxers and flip-flops has you in his crosshairs."
Oh, my God. The President has a sense of humor, and now the Defense Secretary too? Truly this is a new era.

At least he put on what was important: helmet, bulletproof vest, backpack, and gun.

Oh, for sure. I'm not really mocking it. I think soldiers get a huge raw deal and have a ton of respect for them even if I hate their leaders. I'm just finding the humour in the shot.

And pink "I love New York" boxers, an essential part of any soldier's secret equipment!

I'm not making fun either, apparently the dude was actually worried that he was going to get kicked out of the military for being photographed in a firefight without his trousers. Can you believe that?

They should praise him for putting his duty ahead of everything else. He obviously didn't care about how silly he looked even with a photographer there. He did what he had to do to get out there and to his post as quickly as humanly possible

Well, if the Secretary of Defense makes jokes about it talking about as psychological warfare, that's about as much praise as he could get.

Yeah but that don't mean he don't (ooo, double negative :-) get "re-assigned" in a couple of months when the media spotlight is gone

Nah, I seriously doubt it.

I doubt it as well.

Our military is blustering, occasionally arrogant, tight-lipped and full of conservative attitudes, but they are not stupid, nor are they disloyal to their own.
