UFC major injuries: GSP, Lesnar, Nog, Machida, A. Silva

The UFC is not in a very good state right now with most of the top guys out:

Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira: Severe staff infection
Georges St. Pierre: Groin (shouldn't be too long)
Anderson Silva: Bone spurs requiring surgery
Lyoto Machida: Broken hand requiring surgery
Brock Lesnar: Mono/intestinal infection

It's a fairly rough situation right now. The four top champions are out of action leaving BJ Penn alone. GSP is the only one who will be making a certain full recovery; Lesnar, according to Dana White, might never fight again. Nog fought before within a month of getting out of hospital with severe staph (proving to be a big mistake as he lost to Frank Mir, who he should have run over), so Nog may be back in 6 months. Silva and Machida are big questions.

Because of Mono? It's just a major flu that you shake off and recover from.

Seek, when you make a career out of, as Penny Arcade put it, "sundering beings", it stands reasonable to believe you might get injured...my condolences to MMA, but too many athletes out with injury in any sport means y'all are taking it too rough and hard...

I do believe that if you have already been injured enough times, Sine, and get a bad enough case of Mononucleosis, yes, you may never fight again, or even walk for that matter. It's a bad illness.

Thats sort of how i feel. In a sport like MMA this is guranteed to happen. What the UFC has failed to do is hype its young talent or create new stars. I mean, hell, even Chuck Liddell is still on the fence about fighting more? That guy is getting to the level of ancient.

Seek's being overly dramatic. GSP pulled his groin, yes, but he also still managed to get, what, six takedowns on Thiago Alves with that pulled groin? He'll be fine. That's the sort of injury me and my training partners regularly deal with.

Anderson Silva and Lyoto Machida's injuries are par for the course. They'll get surgery, heal, and continue fighting. Staph infections need to be dealt with, but you take your antibiotics, rest, and get better.

Lesnar is the only serious condition. He had mono, but then was also diagnosed with an intestinal infection. He's in bad shape. He's had surgery, is in stable condition, and is recovering. But Dana White also didn't volunteer that Lesnar may never fight again. When explicitly asked, he said he didn't know. There's a difference.

If you think mono is nothing, that's because you have the luxury of sitting on your ass all day and your life doesn't change much.

Football players deal with the same thing. The difference is that a team can still play when even five people on the team are out for injuries.
