Actually I'm pretty sure I didn't... my parents tried hard to make sure I didn't and I think I ended up getting a bit more spoiled than I would otherwise with relatives I don't normally see also giving me birthday presents.
Also XKCD did a comic for me today:

I had my first white Christmas this year. For the first time in 24 years I spent Christmas outside of California. My parents just moved to Colorado a week ago.
Not sure how you people deal with shoveling snow daily...

Ended up buying a Wii for Shellie (after much of her prodding). I guess we'll be a three-console household eventually. Funny, I'm spending most of the time on it with FFCC:Darklord.

Shellie, against Sine's better judgement, get Super Mario Galaxy. It's freakin' amazing and really is the pinnacle of 3D platformers. I can't wait for #2 next Xmas and after playin' that one, you probably will be ankerin' for it.
As for any other games, if you like Ocarina, Twilight is a like that on steroids. The Metroid Prime Trilogy is unbelievably awesome, only The Orange Box is in its league as far as collections go. All three games are amazing. For a decent dungeon-crawling RPG, get the FF: Chocobo Dungeon one. It's cheaper now and is worth it. New SUper Mario Bros Wii is an absolute must-have. I'm also a huge fan of Wii Sports Resort, Smash Bros (best one easy), and Wario Ware. And if you haven't played RE4, the Wii version is freakin' amazing, same with Okami.

I probably will get SMG, and I have Metroid 3. I fear that the controls are going to make it worse than the other two games. (Last time I play it, they were really weird and awkward.) But, I'll give it a benefit of a doubt.
My dad has RE4, and likes it. I got him the RE:UC game, but I doubt he'll tear himself away from the new Tiger Woods 2010 game I got him. (He's fucking addicted to the previous version so much that he actually WATCHES golf on TV.) I've already played RE4 on GC, though. I tried to get him to play Metroid 3, but he was so used to RE4's controls that he really had a hard time navigating around.
Shellie is playing Zelda. I'll let her play that and maybe I'll dive into Metroid. However, again, I've only been interested in playing the downloadables with the basic controls. Got FFCC:Darklord, and Bit Beat. Bit Beat is fucking hard, but I really liked the Rez-like mechanic. I just wish I was skilled enough to enjoy it. I think that is its biggest flaw.

I definitely want the New SMB, and maybe Galaxy, but Im not big on 3D platformers. Zelda Twilight is pretty good so far.

I know that one of the big complaints a lot of people have about 3D platformers is that you just run around aimlessly for so long and you waste a lot of time finding stuff. Galaxy is more contained than the 3D platformers you've played in the past and it really, really streamlined the gameplay so you always feel like you're accomplishing something and working on one goal at a time as opposed to running around aimlessly.
Galaxy is a bit different in that it doesn't have these huge, sprawling worlds for you to explore (and get lost in). The levels are actually broken up more into chunks that you explore/complete then move on to the next part on your way to the end/star. Think of it more as parts of a level from the original SMB where you go to 1-1, then 1-2, then 1-3, and finally finish at 1-4 by collecting the star, sometimes fighting a boss. You actually physically move from one section to another in this game and don't really go back to the previous section except in some cases. Other than a few levels that are relatively large, one-piece levels, the rest are all like that. And you will never feel lost or wasting your time on those one, I don't believe any of them are as big as any single level in Mario 64.
One warning: NSMB is HARD. It's old-school, punishing gameplay and gets even harder if you play with others as you get in each others' way. Of course, you can also "cheat" by having the one person just wait around to free the other if they die and come back in a bubble so it can help you. But if you play it single player, be prepared for a challenge. They really took the whole "the DS one was way too easy" complaint to heart and went the other way with this one.
