Quite possibly the funniest clip I've seen from the Daily Show. Be sure to watch the second video that follows.
Rosalina: But you didn't. Robert: But I DON'T. Rosalina: You sure that's right? Robert: I was going to HAVE told you they'd come? Rosalina: No. Robert: The subjunctive? Rosalina: That's not the subjunctive. Robert: I don't think the syntax has been invented yet. Rosalina: It would have had to have had been. Robert: Had to have...had...been? That can't be right.
As a test, ask someone “where did you get that information?” You will not be surprised at the results: Jon Stewart (The Daily Show) for young (under 40) democrats and Glen Beck for older republicans (40+). Far-rights vs Far-lefts equal ratings battle.
Do not compare Jon Stewart as a left-winged version of Glenn Beck. You are sorely mistaken. One makes shit up, and the other actually uses facts to back up his claims. There is absolutely no comparison.
Right-wingers watch Glenn Beck because he's a populist that knows how to make shit sound super scary, even if there actually isn't any substance to his argument. Left-wingers watch Jon Stewart because he's a truthteller and trying to get any sort of fact-based reporting on actual news channels is a fucking joke. The right want a simple answer without any investigation, and the left knows that there is always more than the surface.
Hell, it's getting to the point that the right can get away with just lying to any reporter and they will take it at face value. Once the lie is on the news, the people repeat the lie over and over again, pretending it's truth, because they heard it on some biased news source that cares more about ratings rather than actual reporting. The news channels are supposed to be the gatekeepers of information, weeding out the disinformation and only reporting the truth. But that is quickly breaking down, and the kind of people who are not skeptical of information are the same type of people who lean to the right.

I watch Jon regularly. I've also caught some of Glenn's shows, but I honestly can't stand to listen to that guy for long. Seriously, Glenn makes these "hidden" connection points that would rival the Da Vinci Code. (Keep in mind that Glenn Beck's show is by far the most popular show out of anything on the three news stations.)

Both parties are bad, so vote Republican, right? I've actually been getting mostly accurate information from the left on the healthcare bill. What was going to be in the bill was detailed pretty well way back in Oct or so, and it seemed that the Democrats were genuinely trying to pass some health reform. Sure, there are some political players, as the Democratic Party as a whole is not a single opinion (like the right seems most of the time), but most everybody on the left agreed that we needed to reform health care in this country.
The Republicans, on the other hand, were basically on a mission to not get anything passed, on the hopes that it would make Obama look bad. Obama made absolutely every effort to make the bill bipartisan, even going so far as to hold a summit about the healthcare bill with the Republicans and Democrats. But, the Republicans basically spent their 6 hours in that meeting saying "We need to start over", which is just a delay tactic to kill the idea entirely. There are already plenty of Republican provisions in the bill. There is no public option. There is no single payer system. What the fuck else does the Republicans want? So, after months and months trying to reason with them, I think Obama came to the same conclusions as the rest of Congress: the Republicans are just playing politics, and can't be reasoned with.
You might think that I'm just being biased and partial, but I've really struggled to figure out the right's opinion on this. I've watched Fox News, hoping to find signs of an actual reasonable argument about healthcare. But, all that I've seen is rhetoric, lies, talking points, and bullshit. Even when I talk to right-wing friends and co-workers, they are usually parroting the same disproven lies on Fox News. On top of that, I've seen plenty of admissions by Republicans that they were only blocking the bill to make sure Obama fails ("To make this his Waterloo"), and to make sure they get a majority in Congress again. To them, it really is about politics, getting cash from insurance lobbyists, and nothing else.

Regardless, I'm registered republican, but I don't seem to align with them most of the time, I'm not democrat, I don't want to be known as an independent. I was for some reform, not universal healthcare. I hate being lumped in with "you republicans." (You probably didn't say that, I'm just on my soap box).
Then why register as a republican? There are no benefits and why even choose a side if you simply have your own opinions and vote accordingly?
My stupid friend who opposed the bill, his excuse was, 'i oppose it because im republican, so...' and i'm like, 'So WHAT? You cant even read the thing yourself?' This is the same guy who thought it would cover illegal aliens as of yesterday.
At 18 they had me check a registration box...actually I don't know what I'm registered as. I never changed it because you just said it, there are no benefits to me.
I used to be a registered socialist, but it wasn't like I voted for anybody in the Socialist Party, so now I'm a registered independent. The only time it was useful to be a Democrat would have been during the 2009 primaries, because I hated Hillary, and KY is a closed primary state (stupid rule).

no denial of pre-existing conditions? Come 2016, I'm dropping insurance, paying the penalties, and only signing up for insurance when I want to see the doctor. I'll drop insurance again when I get better, and overall I'll save money! Hoorah!

Nobody said they couldn't impose savings or deals for people who keep their insurance. Or the govt imposing stiffer penalties later on.
Sure, it's far from perfect, but we have to start somewhere. We've been building up to this for 80 years. Literally. Nobody should be paying over half of their income to health insurance, but that's how it is for people who work for companies that don't offer health insurance. For two people, it's about $1500 a month. That's fucking insane.
My mom has been unemployed for over a year, and it's certainly not from a lack of trying. Because of this, and because my dad runs a small business, she doesn't have health insurance. She takes a ton of medication for heart disease (has four stints in her heart due to atherosclerosis), which she has to beg for from doctors.
People with pre-existing conditions shouldn't have to die because they can't afford insurance, nor should they be charged higher rates because of their conditions. It would be like paying a white person more than a black person. Both skin color and pre-existing conditions are things you cannot control, therefore you should not be penalized for it.
