It is not a joke. Adobe's implementation is probably partly derived from these research projects:

Photoshop CS4 had Content aware scaling which was pretty awesome too!

Amazing. I've always wanted to learn PS... suppose I should learn how to do that kind of stuff manually before relying on this new feature, though.
