I wonder how they could figure out if the guy was right or not? Or maybe that just believed him and thought it wasn't worth the trouble.

He did mention to check the officer's notes about the ticket, so maybe he backed up the story? I dunno, normally if they start writing the ticket they can't stop... unless they contact their supervisor, which he could have done if he believed him instead of making him write a letter.

Either that or someone got such a kick out of his letter they felt he deserved it anyway?

It's also possible the officer in question has a lot of these complaints filed against him.

They usually take your word for it. I've written letters for parking tickets before and have had them waived, its not a big deal.
