Didn't even know there was this contest where people write fake opening lines to books in different genres

I particularly like the one at the very end of the article

Oh yeah, I remember hearing about this almost 15 years ago. My parents had a book with the best entries. It was common to start with "it was a dark and stormy night" because it was so cliche. Though, you were able to write a single paragraph, instead of just a sentence.

It's named for the guy to which that quote it attributed.

My father entered in 1996. He didn't get first place, but I think he was top ten and maybe made it into one of the books.
