earthquake prediction

So at where we work we got this warning about a possible 6.4-7.1 earthquake today (with a 98% probability). I went to the site where they got this from and it says the strength of the quake is accurate to within +-1, and that they'd consider their prediction off even if it's more than 0.1 away from the range.
Now that sounds pretty impressive until you realize +-1 on the Richter scale means you can be 99% off from the actual scale and still within 2. So that prediction sounds suspicious, though I'll still be hiding under a desk today, just in case.
