I passed my PhD dissertation defense. And, for the record, I will never introduce myself as Doctor. I just thought of that line years (years) ago, and I wanted to use it. And by "line" I mean the ridiculousness of applying the honorific to my online nick.

Congrats, Kup. Been a long time comin'. Although it must be scary leaving the safe confines of the education system and being forced to actually work for a living now, isn't it? j/k :-)

So, does that mean you're going to be around a lot more often and not avoid any post longer than 6 words?

I'm actually going to start a research job at the end of January - real world, but still research.

As for being around more, I dunno. The next two weeks are still going to be really busy. And then moving, then starting a new job...

Well, yeah, moving and the first couple of weeks 'til you settle in will be tough. But after that we can hopefully have longer-lasting discussions than in recent memory

Thanks so much, guys. I've actually been crazy busy since I defended. I have to finish the edits on my dissertation by Thursday, and I've barely had a chance to work on them - other responsibilities have been in the way. I am taking that job up in NY with IBM Research.

Well, this is a picture of me sparring. My expression makes me look like a doofus, but keep in mind I have a mouth guard in, and I'm actually consciously trying to remain expressionless and relaxed.

Actually looks like you just got hotboxed by the other fighter and are backing up due to the unequaled stench, Kup :-)

You're pretty close to Gerard there. But we need one of you lookin' at the camera but off to your left a bit screaming like you just got kicked in the nuts and don't want to cry. Then we can make a final decision :-)
