Wow, nice. Its ridiculous how in US we've talked about this for YEARS, and even getting rid of the dollar bill, too, but nothing ever gets done. We continue to spend more producing a penny than the thing is actually worth and probably forever will since change seems to be impossible in modern America.

Almost every coin costs more to produce than it's worth, that's not the deciding factor. It's the fact that they just get collected and mean nothing to no one to the point where they're not staying in circulation causing far more than necessary to be minted is what's killing it.

You should read into how we Canadians will still be paying to the penny in debit and credit transactions but it gets rounded to the nearest 5 cent denomination (3 rounds up) in cash transactions. That'll make you think twice that this is a good idea.....
