iOS6 Maps

I think I remember most of you being android users, so I'll let you know how the iOS6 maps actually are.
They aren't as terrible as the internet makes them out to be, but they are definitely lacking in comparison to google maps. I don't get nearly as accurate or plentiful results as when I used google maps, and I have resorted to using my Nexus 7 out of frustration sometimes.
Having recently moved, I find my phone's maps feature to be very useful. I was already using google maps a lot on my phone, and I switched after I moved, so I definitely noticed that I have switched my route planning entirely over to google maps and just use my phone when I get lost out on the street. Whenever I search for a nearby bank or coffee shop, the results I get with Apple's maps are definitely inferior (and a little frustrating because I have to go farther than I need to because it missed results that were closer to me).
I am sure that all this will be ironed out soon, but this latest iteration of iOS is pretty unspectacular. I am not looking for miracles here, but I really miss the better app integration with the OS in android, and there is no tumblr app for the Nexus 7 and someone needs to get on that.

The big touted feature was "turn-by-turn voice navigation". Is this a thing on google maps? I don't drive a car, so I don't give a shit about that.

I haven't used iOS 6 yet, I am still using 5 - since I do travel enough that map apps are a bit of a necessity, I think I will wait until the iOS6 Google maps app is available before upgrading my OS or until they fix the outstanding bugs in Apple Maps.

Yeah, Google Maps has had that for a while and it's really nice, especially on the newer versions of Android. I use it pretty regularly.

Yes, this is half the reason to own a smartphone.
Heh, Apple users? Dumbasses.
Apple user: "Hey, look! We now have feature X!" (X = SMS messaging, maps, 4G, turn-by-turn navigation, Exchange support, etc., etc., etc.)
Android user: "Yeah, we've had that feature for years."
Apple tries to do their own thing and they seem to forget that Google has spent over a decade on Google Maps. Not to mention that Google has been running those Google cars for more than just Street View: they were retracing the third-party maps so that they don't have to pay royalities. Apple is going to have to do the same thing if they expect to not spend goobs of money in royalties. Of course, they won't have to worry about it for long because people will be dumping their map tool for Google's. Or just dumping the entire overpriced phone for an Android one.
MS tried doing this with Bing, and they have a lot more money to dump on stuff like that. It's still a failing endeavor. Even when they make it IE's default search engine, Google just creates Chrome and now browser market share for IE is an abyssal 33% (below that of Chrome now!).
Face it. Apple's closed-sourced methods are a dinosaur. And the bread-and-butter items that Google owns in (search engines, maps) are NOT going to fall down.

Plus I guarantee you that those still won't stay in my ears. My ears will not hold any kind of earbud unless it's those squishy rubber interchangeable kind. I don't get why Apple doesn't just use that style since you can get the perfect fit for any ear shape.

I think they purposefully do not want them to be noise cancelling. Any of their ear buds, including these, do not fully seal the ear canal like the ones with the rubber doohickies do.

Had I known that you can't plot a route without a 3rd party routing app, I definitely would not have updated to iOS6. Now I have to look at a bus schedule like a dinosaur!

Apple does in-ear headphones but they're disgustingly over-priced and don't last anywhere near as long as similarly priced products. It sounds like I'm describing a ton of their product lines because I probably am. Going to assume they include those trashy POS ear buds and not the in-ear buds because they charge, what, three times the value of the normal ones for the in-ear variety? You've really gotta go third party for just about any peripheral for their products. My iPod Touch is the only Apple product I've ever had last more than 1.5 years and work about as well as the day I bought it.
