Ignoring the philsophical/political aspect of drones, I really don't see what's the big hype about them being the next generation of warfare. There's always some discussion like 'what if Al Queda gets drones'. Well if they got them they'd just get shot down too since drones are considerably less survival than any jet aircraft due to a lack of speed, not to mention they don't exactly bring much of a payload at this point. Since they're not autonomous you can also try to just jam the controls and that'd take them out too, or at least force them to land. I mean I get that they're likely to transform war in some way or another but right now the only real advantage of drones is that when you're fighting people without an air force you can send those guys in instead of real people to do the dirty work.

Al Qaeda probably have fewer resources than the Crips do these days. At least the Crips can still afford to buy bullets for their AKs.

Well one thing people always gloss over is that drones might be cheap relative to a jet fighter but they still go for several and even tens of millions, and obviously deliver way less payload and way less survivality. They're popular with US because US don't care too much about throwing money into a war as long as no one on their side dies but if you are actually trying to fight a war you probably wouldn't be so cheap.
