I'm sure some of you guys have heard about the Gawker writer Adrian Chen going after a reddit user going by the name Violentacrez. Exposing his real name and as a result getting him fired by his employer. Now this guy is no prized peach and even described himself as a huge troll. As much as I like Reddit it does bother me that some of the subreddit categories exist, and this individual was responsible for setting some of them up and moderating others. At the same time I don't know if I agree with this type of 'journalism' and doxing an individual.
Under Reddit logic, outing Violentacrez is worse than anonymously posting creepshots of innocent women, because doing so would undermine Reddit’s role as a safe place for people to anonymously post creepshots of innocent women.

I am OK with that.
What have you guys read and thought of the matter?

A guy gets caught for being an asshole and hiding behind anonimity. Now he has to face the consequences.

It was his choice to be a dickwad, and he hid behind anonimity like a coward. I don't have sympathy, and feel it serves him right; it was his choice to be a racist pedophile... 49 years old, now that is just sad.

At least guys like Maddox and Seanbaby (who are in a similar business) do not hide behind anonymity.

I find it impossible to defend either outting anonimous users or trolls and creeps posting with few restrictions. Both sides are in the wrong here. One more than the other, clearly, but ideally they both knock it the hell off.

I'm pretty glad that they outted the teacher who was secretly photographing his students though. Photographing women in public is one thing but minors in class... woo there's a line somewhere and that one got crossed quite a ways back.

Oddly enough I conduct myself in a civilized manner when I'm online. Something that this place actually taught me lol. People have feelings online and offline, just because you can act like an asshat doesn't mean you should, or anyone should feel sympathy for you if you're caught.

I agree with this statement. I've never felt the need to do anything online I wouldn't do or say in everyday life. (Online games not included)

I always assume that Internet superusers, like this douche, all had jobs in the industry where they could work from home all day and post on Reddit until their hearts content. I feel bad the guy lost his job, but how much time really did he spend on the Internet at work? Probably a lot and I'm sure there was plenty of picture hunting on that machine, too.

Ummm, what? Please don't compare this dickhole to Maddox or Seanbaby.
