I got off work today in preparation for whatever is going to happen with this storm. Hope it isnt too bad! Just a lot of rain right now, but it will get worse i'm sure.. I dont have a garage, but i put the cover on my motorcycle yesterday, i hope it doesnt blow away or get a tree on top of it being in the street for 2 days straight.

I dont mind snow storms and things like that, but rain and losing power is no fun. Which is will probably come ot that at some point.

Hopefully you don't lose power, that's the worst part of any hurricane(that doesn't like tear your house down I mean).

This one avoided us, and instead we just got some freak 20 degree weather (I think that's about 70 in American degrees) when we're usually around 10 at this time of year. We usually get one or two hurricanes/tropical storms per fall which cause a few million in damage, this year we've been lucky. The most destructive I have in memory is hurricane Juan about 10 years ago.

I hear this one is fairly insane, something about large bull shark being blown into New Jersey (what's up with that?).

Also, I think it's hilarious how CNN reporters are dramatizing their reporting by standing in the water; especially when they say things like "all the rational people have already left this area."

Anyway, I hope you, Flip, and anyone else here being effected is holding up alright.

I never lost power, which is a miracle since a lot of people in DC/Virginia/Maryland did. I always seem to get lucky in thunderstorms and stuff, too. Maybe its because i live in a rich part of the city (even though im poor and just have a lucky rowhome) and rich people always need power we are on special grid. JFK used to live a few blocks away from me so i'm sure he pulled some strings during his time in Georgetown. :P

My roof didnt leak, which it is prone to do, and the neighborhood itself looks relatively ok. Sounds like north of DC got slammed way worse (NYC). I had plenty of food, wine, and electricity so i was happy as a clam bunkered in yesterday.

Looks like you got the best-case scenario, Flip. Free day to stay at home all alone and do absolutely nothing. It's like every man's dream, particularly us married guys :-)

We didn't lose power either. The meat of it bypassed a lot of Maryland. Just a ton of wind and a ton of rain, but not terrible!

Apparently there was a much more devastating underlying effect of the hurricane - the momentary death of decorum.

It's good to know the well-to-do kids are opening their hearts and homes to others by taking the enormous step of elminating a dress code to ensure people can have shelter. Nobel Peace Prize, here we come!
