That was really well done. I guess in the future New Zealand will essentially only be known for these movies, though. And Flight of the Concords. :P

Before LotR, most people wouldn't be able to tell you where New Zealand is. The fact that they got Peter Jackson to do something like this shows how important it's been for their tourism.

Honestly, is there any reason to take down Hobbiton and/or Rohan this time? Those sets have gotta be worth their weight in tourism gold right now

My Mother went to New Zealand last month to see some of our family. The safety instructional video on the plane is LOTR themed. Hard to take anything else about them seriously if they're that willing to pander.

Yes, commemorative coins. Canada whores itself out all the time for stuff like that. I somehow doubt anyone willing to pay almost $3,700 for a $10 coin will actually use it in circulation :-)
