My life in a nutshell. Move to a new area for the first time ever and suddenly the worst natural disaster the area has ever had!

Luckily our house is higher than most of the town. So to us (me and the GF i moved with), it has all just looked like tons of rain the last week. TONS of rain, though, coming down really hard all day and all night long. We stayed in and didnt go anywhere for a while since she works at home and I'm currently job hunting. Last Thursday night, however, we were getting stir crazy and wanted to get out of the house and go eat and thats when we finally saw some of the damage. Even trying to drive a few miles to a restaurant we encountered lots of flooded intersections, overflowing streams/reservoirs, etc. Some of the roads where waist deep in water and closed off completely. After realizing that most of the restaurants were closed, we just carefully drove back home! We are very lucky where our house sits.

This weekend, the rain finally broke and it was sunny Saturday. The rain has started back up again today, though, but not as hard as it was before. I think the worst should be behind us. The bummer is this weekend was supposed to be the Boulder Fall Festival, but allthe activities have been cancelled. This is an unusual flood for the area and bad luck considering it is out second week here!

Here is a pic of one of the intersections from Thursday night and then a few from Saturday when we biked downtown to see how the damage was.

This latest rain is setting off flood warning again, though, since the ground is just too saturated to even handle a few inches of rainfall. Will next week finally be sunny in this town that gets 300+ sunny days a year? Hopefully it all turns out ok, this is quite a mess.

If you're in the flood plain, get your house off of it. Then cancel that flood insurance. Or if you're still scared of the damage, get the super discounted rate for flood insurance outside of the flood plain.

Yeah man, :/ I still feel bad for you. I shouldnt complain and I hope the clean up efforts around here work out for the people who lost their homes. There seems to be a ton of property damage.

Finally, I am very settled in at Boulder now. The GF and I moved here from DC in the first week of September and we officially have life together.

She works for the EPA and was part of the government shutdown, so that was a pain. I was looking for a job at the time, so we both were home a lot trying to take in some of the gorgeous area, but not spend a ton of money at the same time. Luckily, she was getting paid while shutdown, but they were comping her vacation time. When the shutdiwn ended, her vacation was all but depleted. However, that kind of worked out because in the meantime i found a job at a small accounting firm in Boulder who specialize in taxes and small business and obviously i would be starting a new job with zero vacation, too.

Moving across the country with one of us having to quit their job and settle into a brand new area is a very new experience for me. Its been an adventure and I must say that Colorado is amazing.

I have family in Aurora. It is really pretty and if you enjoy the outdoors you can't beat it.
