Since we're on a roll with the PC tech questions/statements and since I've been somewhat out of the loop here...

<div style='font: 10pt Impact; text-align: left; '>I've got some things I think I need to work out before the 7th of September when all of gaming will change. I need to figure out right now if my current system is going to be able to handle the beautiful games of the future right now and I want to upgrade it (again, in a little over 12 months since the last $700 upgrade) perhaps.

Current system Specs...

P4 2.4GHz Processor, HT 800Mhz FSB (Probably good enough)
512MB of PC2700 DDRRAM from Crucial
ABit IS7-E motherboard with SATA RAID (SATA RAID won't work until BIOS update, but since floppy channel doesn't work either, I'm SOL, looking for another board to replace this. ABit let me down... *cries* Plus onboard sound on this thing BLOWS!)
Albatron GeForce 5200FX (This could be a major issue in the future since I realized 3 months after I bought the card that it runs slower than shit)
Western Digital 40GB 8MB buffer 7200RPM drive (Aside from it being a bit on the low side of storage, it's nice)

As I've noted, I would not like to touch the Processor or the HD. Ram could be an issue and I could very well get a nice deal on an 512MB stick somewhere in the near future, just as long as there aren't any earthquakes over in Korea and Taiwann anytime soon. The Motherboard does it's job. It's not like I need or use SATA RAID but the floppy disk issue makes it kind of a bitch by not being able to print papers off at school (instead I set up an ftp and get my papers that way). The videocard is probably the thing I really need to worry about since the damn thing crashes like a bitch whenever I try to run 3Dmark2003 w/ the 340 patch. So my dilemma here is to go with another more expensive nVidia card (Something powerful, I've learned from my mistakes and underpowering video is not the answer to building a good system) or drabble in the love that dare not speak it's name and go ATI (Which is something I am really...REALLY dreading since I hate ATI with a passion...you don't understand...a PASSION, a blazing firey inferno of hate...more hate than...well...you get the picture). So since I value and respect most of your opinions on these pc matters, I have to ask, what the fuck should I get? Why should I get it? How much is it going to cost me? And how often will I have to worry about it in the future?

On a personal note, I've stopped using my medication since it's been labled as addictive in adults, so I apologize if my messages are unclear, hard to follow, or redundant. The reason why I have not been here as often is simple. 1) I'm lazy 2) I work 50+ hrs a week 3) I'm house sitting for people who have dial-up AOL, but they do have digital cable. Also, my younger brother, has decided to join the marine corps, and that will surely be the last straw for my mother. Needless to say, the stress level in the house is at an all time, 11 year high.

Also, re-reading this, I forgot to mention what game I need this for. Half-Life 2. Thanks for taking the time to read all of this, you can omit what you'd like to. I'll check back when I can. PO!</div>

I love my Radeon 9600 pro.  I'm surprised you hate Radeon, i like them and AMD and loathe the big boys (Intel and NVidia).

<div style='font: 12pt "Cooper Black"; text-align: left; '>But if you insist on an NVidia then there are still plenty of options. The GF FX 5800 would run the game just fine, as would the 5700, and its a little over $100 bucks, for about the same price you could get the Radeon 9600 XT which is also plenty of power to play HL2 at a decent resolution.

I too greatly anticipate the release of HL2 and will not upgrade my video card, even the 9600 pro will be able to handle it at a good lvl.

Yeah, your processor is fine and as lomng as your mobo works, it is fine too. If you have an open DDR slot then you might as well pick up another stick of 256. 256 PC2700 should only run you about 50 bucks.

So if i had 200 bucks burning a hole in my pocket that is what i would do, Radeon 9600 XT and a 256 PC 2700. In your case you could do just as good with a 5800 and the same RAM, since you hate Radeon.</div>

Yeah....

<div style='font: 10pt Impact; text-align: left; '>That's what I was thinking. I was actually going to wait for a sale on Ram to see if I could just boost it to 1GB for shits and giggles. Gabe sayz that HL2 will likely go Gold in august. There are rumors that it will make an early september release.</div>

<div style='font: 12pt ; text-align: left; '>Hate to nitpick, but isn't it ATI not Radeon? I love mine also, very stable and didn't cost me a bundle.</div>
