<div style='font: 10pt Arial; text-align: left; '>My roommate has been "red-flagged" by Columbia Pictures. I was informed of this on Friday when my network adminstrator for the apartment complex I live in came by to talk to him. Hopefully this will all blow over. They found him by his MAC address on his NIC card. Does anyone know what could happen to him as far as legal action if it were to take place? Links and info would be appreciated.</div>

<div style='font: 10pt georgia; text-align: left; '>Its really just a warning. They just report you to your ISP. The only person that really sues anyone is the RIAA.</div>

<div style='font: 10pt Arial; text-align: left; '>I was just curious if there are any measures or precautions he should take right now to make sure if something happens it's minimal at best.</div>

<div style='font: 10pt georgia; text-align: left; '>Tell him to make sure he turns off upload. You can download, but they go after the uploaders. Same thing for bit torrent users. Suprnova is watched, heavily. One of our guys here got a complaint because his wife dl'ed(and ul'ed with Bit torrent) the last Friends ep off Supr.</div>

<div style='font: 10pt georgia; text-align: left; '>He'll probably never hear anything more from it. It's his landlord that owns the service, so his landlord probably got the letter/email from his ISP. They pretty much drop it from there. Your ISP isnt about to go cracking down on their paying customers without a subpoena from a court.</div>

<div style='font: 10pt verdana; text-align: left; padding: 0% 10% 0% 10%; '>Yes, they are. A friend of mine has Cox, and his connection just wasn't working. After going through the whole list with tech support, the guy checked, and he was flagged as having downloaded a Dead Like Me episode. They shut off his service and waited for him to contact them.</div>

<div style='font: 10pt georgia; text-align: left; '>I guess ISP's handle it differently. We send an email to let you know what's going on. Cox suspends your service till you call in to let you know. Did he lose service for good or did they turn him back on after they let him know?</div>

<div style='font: 12pt Arial; text-align: left; '>Maybe if idiots (like your roommate) stopped downlaoding pirated movies from the internet they'd have nothing to worry about.</div>

<div style='font: 10pt "EngraversGothic BT", "Copperplate Gothic Light", "Century Gothic"; text-align: left; '>Actually, downloading doesn't matter. It's sharing. You can't do shit about somebody downloading pirated software/movies/music/whatever.</div>

<div style='font: 9pt ; text-align: left; '>That's renting, I'm talking about lesser stuff that is even hard to find for rent. And you gotta support certain films (like Control Room, Supersize Me, Open Water, and The Corporation) otherwise more don't get made</div>
