I found out yesterday at work that my father passed away. I knew something was bad when my boss called me into her office without warning, thought I was going to get laid off right then and there. At least it was a peaceful death.

I'm sorry for your loss. I don't mean to pry, and if I am please just tell me or ignore it, but did you know it was coming? I know it's much more painful and harder to grieve when it just hits you out of the blue...

<div style='font: 10pt ; text-align: left; '>It's not quite the same, but my grandmother had a devastating stroke about eight years ago that was completely unexpected. It wasn't a death, but she can't even really talk anymore. She's trapped in her own head and almost unable to communicate and, in a way, it's almost like at least a part of her died, because she won't ever be able again to share herself with us the way she used to.
I mention it only because I know the pain of having an unexpected loss, and I can sympathize if it were so...</div>

No, I honestly had no idea it was coming. My dad had visited a clinic recently and checked out fine, the only thing the doctor had said was he should cut down on smoking.

<div style='font: 14pt "Times New Roman"; text-align: left; '>And that's horrible about your grandmother btw. In a way it's almost worse than being completely dead, because now she can't function or communicate at all, but technically she's still alive so you're still forced to deal with that reality. You have my condolences.</div>
